The Peak District

Britain’s first—and therefore oldest—National Park, designated in 1951. It was here that the Kinder Mass Trespass occurred in 1932, where people demanded the right for open access on Britain’s moorlands. Arguably this event was the main catalyst that eventually led to the formation of UK National Parks.

Despite its name the highest hill in the Peak District is Kinder Scout at 636 m (2,087 ft). The National Park is more known for its plateaus, valleys, limestone gorges, caves, and gritstone escarpments (called "edges").

I’ve only been to the Peak District twice, and feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s available. Here’s to many more journeys around this glorious and historical place.
